GRE Requirement & Enrollment Assistance Plan

The new NYSED admissions requirement means all applicants must submit GRE scores. We're here to help you.

New NYSED Admissions Requirement

All applicants who plan to enroll in our Teacher Education, School Counseling and Education Leadership programs must submit official scores of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). You can get POWERPREP software for free and other online resources for the GRE general test on the GRE website. Mometrix also has prep information and a Free Prep Course for the GRE exam.

The GRE exam is administered daily at prometric centers around New York City and state. To schedule a test date, choose your location: NYC, Brooklyn, Queens, and Westbury etc. You can take the computer-delivered GRE revised General Test once every 21 days, up to five times within any continuous rolling 12-month period (365 days).  This applies even if you canceled your scores on a test taken previously.

Touro Assistance

Additionally, the Touro Graduate School of Education (GSE) has embarked upon a plan to assist applicants to all of our graduate programs.

1. All Touro applicants who take the GRE and score between 147 and 153 in both the Verbal and Quantitative Reasoning portions will have $250 remitted as tuition credit upon matriculation and enrollment in a GSE program. Those who score 154 or higher in both the Verbal and Quantitative Reasoning portions of the GRE will have $500 remitted to them as tuition credit upon matriculation and enrollment in a GSE program.

2. All Touro applicants who have not yet taken the GRE are welcome to join our GRE test preparation, instructor-led workshops beginning Monday August 1, 2016 at a competitive fee of $250.00. Please contact or 212-463-0400 x 5837 to sign up.

3. We are paying special attention to helping you develop the writing skills that are crucial to your success on the NYSED teacher’s licensing examinations such as the ALST, EAS, & CST. Applicants who have taken the GRE with satisfactory scores in the verbal and quantitative sections but whose scores on the Analytic Writing section fall between 2.5 and 3.5 will be required to take the GSE Writing Course.   Upon successful completion of the course, the GSE will remit the $500 course fee as tuition credit the following semester.  Specific forms for this program will be forwarded to candidates as admission decisions are made.
