Advisement for Additional Certifications

For teachers that are already certified and want to add an additional certificate in another area without completing another Master's program, or teacher candidates in our Master's programs that would like to be certified in more than one area, we recommend the following courses for additional certifications.

Please remember that it is your responsibility to verify coursework required when seeking an Additional Certificate with NYSED. Some helpful resources are: NYSED Certification Requirements Search and NYS Education Department Office of Teaching Initiatives

The certificate candidate must have successfully completed the following:

  • CST-Students with Disabilities
  • 3-hour Autism Workshop
  • 6-hour DASA (Dignity for All Students Act Workshop)
  • To add certification at a new grade level, the CST-Multi-Subject parts 1 and 2 for the new grade level(s) need to be completed. Part 3 is shared by all four CST-Multi-Subject tests; therefore, if you are seeking more than one Multi-Subject certificate, you need to pass Part 3 only once.

NYSED will check candidates’ undergraduate transcript to see that they have met the required credits for Liberal Arts and Sciences coursework.

For graduate courses applied toward an additional certificate, a grade of B- or higher is required. Additional requirements, per certification, are as follows:
