Teaching Students with Autism and Severe or Multiple Disabilities
Every year, we learn more about how autism affects a growing number of children. We equip teachers with the most advanced research and methods to meet the needs of every student with severe and/or multiple disabilities.
The Graduate School of Education offers a four-course program for teachers already certified in Special Education or in Teaching Students with Disabilities. The program leads to an annotation on your NYSED teaching certification.
What You’ll Learn
Courses cover curriculum planning, learning environments, methods of instruction and collaborative instruction for students with severe and/or multiple disabilities. We also incorporate the latest technologies for assessment and early intervention, and best practices for helping children develop social and communication skills.
In addition, we offer an intensive three-hour workshop on Autism—required by New York State for the annotation—at several locations, and online, for our students’ convenience.
Admissions Requirements
In addition to supplying a copy of their Teacher Certification, all applicants must meet the general application requirements.
Courses are offered at various Touro campuses, as well as online. Review our application process or contact us to learn more about advancing your education and career.
