Webinar with Jeremy F. Price, Professor of Technology and Pedagogy in Urban Education in the Indiana University School of Education
One of the powers of technology-based coursework is that it can be done anywhere, anytime. Often left underexamined is the role that ritual (a consistent and predictable flow built on meanings, values, and goals) plays in fostering online and hybrid environments. Being mindful of ritual grounds the technology-based experience in time, place, and community by emotionally preparing learners to engage, facilitating a sense of belongingness, and providing a transitional marker. This session explores the theoretical foundations of ritual in education, highlights examples, and provides a forum for incorporating mindful and contemplative ritual into participants’ courses.
