The Touro GSE Faculty Development Committee presents a workshop series The Science of Reading with Dr. Maureen Campbell. This session will cover The Reading Brain, The Speech Sounds of English.

The Science of Reading Workshop Series provides knowledge and tools that address the essential question of WHY reading is a challenge and HOW to effectively teach the skills required for proficient reading and writing. The workshop series translates current research about the systems of language and conceptual models related to word recognition and language comprehension.

Workshop Sessions

June 25: Session 1 - The Reading Brain, The Speech Sounds of English

June 26: Session 2 - Teaching Phonics, Word Study, Spelling, Decoding, and Word Recognition

June 27: Session 3 - Oral Language and Vocabulary, Reading Comprehension, the Reading-Writing Connection

About the presenter

Dr. Maureen Campbell has been working over 30 years with public schools, serving families and their children as a teacher, Principal, District Deputy Superintendent, and Director at a national level.  She has focused on advancing innovative and effective models in education and administration while incorporating a tenacious joy in community outreach and engagement. Dr. Campbell earned a B.A. from Vassar College, a tutorial at Oxford University, an M.A. from Teacher’s College/Columbia University, and a PhD from Capella University.
