The Touro Holmes Scholars program, coordinated by The Lander Center for Educational Research, is registered with the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) national program of Holmes Scholars.

The program is designed to attract and develop members from various social, economic, and cultural backgrounds and communities who seek a career in education.

Touro Holmes Scholars are afforded a support system of peer networks and mentorship that occur locally and nationally. The program adds value to our graduate programs in the Graduate School of Education (GSE). Participants are selected through a rigorous process and must demonstrate high academic performance and a commitment to the ideals of the GSE and the Lander Center for Educational Research. The Touro Holmes program is a year-long commitment.

Expectations of Touro Holmes Scholars

Holmes scholars candidates agree to the following commitments:

  • Active participation in GSE activities and initiatives
  • One year of active participation in the Touro Holmes Program
  • Uphold the ideals of the GSE and the Lander Center for Educational Research within the profession and community
  • Support and engage in P-12/University partnership development

Eligibility

  • Be fully enrolled in Touro’s Graduate School of Education
  • Hold a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 and maintain a 3.25 GPA for graduate work
  • Must have two (2) academic terms of coursework when selected
  • Be committed to the ideals of the Touro Holmes Program
  • Meet other requirements, as specified in the Holmes Program application
